Significant media momentum in recent years has brought a vast number and variety of global and Arabic satellite channels. Still, a need has arisen for channels that are designed specifically for an Arab audience and that embrace the new scope and function of media in our times. Arab media institutions have responded by establishing channels that highlight different social and cultural topics, educate and provide public services, and raise awareness of the issues affecting the daily lives of Arab citizens.

Ghiras satellite channel plays an especially important role, tackling the extremely timely and serious issue of drug abuse and prevention. The channel is an extension of the distinguished and visible efforts by the National Drug Awareness and Prevention Project (Ghiras) in this advocacy area. In light of the increase in drug use and other delinquent behaviors, it is urgent that action be taken to prevent them from escalating harm to the health and well-being of youth and families, as well as overall human and economic development.

The addition of a satellite channel dedicated exclusively to furthering Ghiras's mission will help expand its reach, and the channel's original programming will help disseminate its message widely.
